Unveiled: The story behind the light

In 2014, I traveled to the South of France to study abroad.

It was my first venture to Europe, and it really didn’t take too long before I discovered a different light there.

It was immersive, enthralling, captivating. I wanted to bottle it up and take it back to America with me.

But I couldn’t. So I decided to paint it.

At the time, I wanted to communicate my belief in something greater, without it being deemed a religious piece of artwork. I wanted to connect with people about my deepest self, using light as the metaphor. The thickest pigment was also the lightest in color: a physical form of texture was applied to communicate the energy that I felt was most real to me. The unveiling of my inner world on linen.
